Civil Engineering, Environment and Spatial Planning
The two-year programme was first introduced in Merano in 1991 as a branch campus of the Technical High School in Bolzano. The Civil Engineering programme was established in Merano in 1995. Following school reforms, the Technical High School was renamed the Technological High School, and our programme was renamed Civil Engineering, Environment and Spatial Planning. More recently, the Sustainable Construction specialisation has been introduced.
Over the years, the programme in Merano has become firmly established, graduating a large number of students who have gone on to study at various universities, particularly in Architecture and Civil Engineering.
Civil engineering is an extremely diverse field encompassing a wide range of activities. These include surveying; valuing land and buildings; quantity surveying and cost estimation; foundation engineering and soil science; construction site management; and architectural design. Structural calculations for concrete and timber construction also form part of the profession.
Students on the Civil Engineering, Environment and Spatial Planning programme learn to:
- use machinery, materials and equipment in the construction sector professionally and safely;
- work with modern equipment and software used for planning, calculation and design in the construction industry;
- assess the value of buildings and building sites and evaluate environmental impacts;
- acquire sound knowledge of surveying techniques;
- plan construction projects, organise construction sites and manage real estate;
- gain an understanding of legislation relevant to the construction sector and its practical application;
- develop expertise in energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable construction methods.

- Soil Science, Economics and Property Valuation
- Construction Site Management and Occupational Safety
